Board of Directors...
SUSAN
ZIMMERMAN (President)...
and her husband,
Barry, moved to Winding River from the Philadelphia PA area in
2009. Susan earned a B.A. degree in Engineering. Her
professional career included computer programming, marketing,
sales and customer service management. She was invited to
join The Winding River Players as Producer for Tartuffe, was
subsequently appointed Interim Member-at-Large, and then elected
President of the Board of Directors. Susan completed a
complicated, challenging application process which resulted in a
non-profit 501(c)(3) status. She has brought outstanding
organization and leadership to “The Players.” Her skills
in technology have benefitted the theatre group as well.
She recently acquired a video camera and high quality
microphones for actors, major improvements for actors.
Susan has also appeared in acting roles, as “Pat Newcomer” in
Thanks for the Memories and “Judy Blake” in Cross-Your-Heart and
Hope to Die, a murder mystery. She has agreed to
serve as Head Producer in the 2012 production, I Love You,
You’re Perfect, Now Change.
SUE MACCULLUM (Artistic Director)...
and husband Jim, moved to Winding River from West Virginia in
2002. Sue founded “The Winding River Players” that year. Her
background includes an MFA in theatre performance with
professional training in dance. She has taught and directed
theatre and dance for over thirty years. She has choreographed
for numerous dance concerts and musicals. She is a member of
Winding River Players’ Mixed Doubles Barbershop Quartet and St.
James Plantation Tappers Extraordinaire. She served on Thalian
Hall’s Board of Directors for three years and currently serves
on the Brunswick Arts Council and Ballet Opera Alliance Boards
of Directors. She writes scripts and produces for various
fundraisers in local counties, including Brunswick Community
College Foundation’ “Dancing with the Stars” Scholarship
Fundraisers, Providence Home Benefits, North Carolina Children’s
Home, Thalian Hall Gala, and Brunswick Arts Council Galas. It
has been necessary for Sue to fill acting roles in a couple of
“Players’” productions: “Alice” in The Honeymooners; “Tartuffe”
in Tartuffe; and “Nancy True” in Murder at Tea Time (by Kathyrn
Martin). She will direct the 2012 production, I Love You,
You’re Perfect, Now Change.
DIANE MACQUARRIE (Treasurer)...
and husband John, moved to Winding River from Raleigh, NC in
1999. Diane’s birth took place in the same room where Grace
Kelly was born. She considers her own birth there a
serendipitous event of sorts because she has always had an
active interest in the performing arts. She appeared in several
acting roles in high school, including the “Russian Grand
Dutchess” in You Can’t Take it With You. After high school
graduation, Diane attended Wilford Academy in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. In 2005, Sue MacCallum encouraged her to audition
for a Winding River Players production. Sue recognized that she
was a natural, comedic “character actor.” Diane was appointed to
the Board of Directors in 2006 as Treasurer. She serves as
advisor and consultant in financial matters, ensuring that
productions adhere to budget guidelines. Diane’s acting roles
include: “Cruella DeVille Conman” in the “Players’” Who Dun It?
murder mystery; “Gracie Allen” in Celebrity Cruisin’; “Leona
Helmsley” in Celebrity Apprentice; a featured actor in Thanks
for the Memories; “Lady Dunston” in Murder at Tea Time and as
impersonator of Lucille Ball (I Love Lucy) at several Brunswick
County fundraisers. Diane has also assisted on production
tasks as needed. A skilled hair and make-up artist, she created
authentic, 16th century wigs and make-up for a period production
of Tartuffe. Through the years, Diane’s other creative
abilities have become apparent. In 2011, she was Assistant to
the Director, Sue MacCallum, in the production of SHORTS. She
has agreed to serve as a Creative Assistant in the 2012
production, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.

of SHORTS during tech week, assuming the role of stage
manager. His organizational skills, his ability to lead
and to create smooth teamwork back stage, were critical
to the success of the production. He was appointed to
the Winding River Players Board of Directors in late
2011. He contributes common sense, a grasp of good
business practices, marketing skills and a teamwork
approach to stage management. He recently researched
and procured two wireless headsets for communication
between stage manager and sound/lighting technicians.
